A Warm Welcome
The sun had just set in our hometown when Ron
and I found ourselves tucked into a cozy downtown
café, savoring plates of chicken-fried steak with
all the fixings. Suddenly, a tall man in a ball cap
approached, shook Ron’s hand, and said, “I hear
you’re the new owner of Best of Bastrop County,
sir!” With a grin, Ron replied, “That’s right—how did
you know?”The man chuckled, “Word travels fast
around here. Congratulations—we look forward to
next year’s contest with you at the helm. It’s gonna
be a good one!”

And indeed, it has been a very good one.
From the very beginning, we understood that
Best of Bastrop County is more than a contest—
it’s a tradition rooted in community. We have
seen just how deeply Bastrop County values its
local businesses. At the heart of this tradition is
a community that takes pride in its neighbors,
celebrates its strengths, and continues to
champion the people and businesses that make
this county thrive.
This year’s contest included 10 categories and more
than 160 subcategories, drawing in nominations
and votes from across multiple cities. Engagement
was incredible—hundreds of posters with QR codes
were distributed, making it easy for folks to nominate
their favorites. And nominate they did! Over 21,000
nominations poured in, leading to an enthusiastic
wave of voting (over 100k) that showcased the very
best our community has to ofer.
